Source: Date:2026年05月26日

On May 25 local time, Sicomines held a launch ceremony for its 2025 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Certified Public Accountants LLP, a globally renowned professional services and consulting firm, was invited to conduct an independent professional assessment of the report. Members of the company’s management committee, deputy chief engineers, heads of departments and affiliated units, ESG coordinators, and Deloitte’s expert team attended the event, jointly witnessing this important milestone that highlights the company’s commitment to corporate responsibility.

The ESG Report represents Sicomines’ latest achievement in deepening its presence in the DRC and advancing sustainable development. The report systematically discloses the company’s achievements, innovative initiatives, and future plans in environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance throughout 2025. It comprehensively demonstrates how ESG principles have been integrated into every aspect of the company’s operations and management, underscoring its commitment to strengthening mutually beneficial China-Africa cooperation and promoting sustainable development.

In the field of environmental management, Sicomines remains committed to green development principles, focusing on mining, beneficiation, smelting, and roasting operations. The company has continuously optimized production processes and implemented green technology upgrades to improve resource recovery rates while reducing energy consumption and pollutant emissions. Key environmental initiatives included tail gas treatment projects and upgraded dust-control systems. Through these efforts, the compliance rate for wastewater and exhaust gas discharge remained at 100 percent, hazardous waste disposal compliance reached 100 percent, and both water recycling rates and the proportion of renewable energy usage remained above 90 percent. These measures have significantly reduced environmental impacts at the source and supported the company’s goal of becoming a benchmark for green and low-carbon overseas mining operations.

In fulfilling its social responsibilities, Sicomines adheres to the development philosophy of “mutual benefit, win-win cooperation, and local integration,” actively contributing to local economic and social development. The localization rate of its workforce has reached 85 percent, and together with its partners, the company has directly and indirectly created more than 20,000 jobs for local communities. Sicomines has diligently implemented the commitments outlined in the Social Responsibility Agreements signed with government authorities and local communities, while continuously expanding public welfare initiatives. Among these efforts is the launch of the “Prosperous Agriculture in the DRC, Better Livelihoods in Yinge Village” initiative, which aims to establish the country’s first model new-rural development project. The company has also invested heavily in local talent development by creating industry-education integration platforms that support quality employment opportunities for young people. At the same time, Sicomines remains people-oriented, safeguarding the rights and interests of both Chinese and Congolese employees through comprehensive compensation, healthcare, and occupational health systems. Regular safety training programs and emergency drills have further strengthened workplace safety and enhanced employees’ sense of belonging and well-being.

To strengthen corporate governance, Sicomines established an ESG Management Committee directly overseen by the Board of Directors, creating a governance framework characterized by clear accountability and rigorous compliance standards. The company strictly complies with local laws and regulations, upholds the highest standards of business ethics, and embeds compliance management throughout its operations. Meanwhile, it continues to strengthen risk management and internal control systems to ensure stable and sustainable growth, setting a model of sound governance for China-DRC mining cooperation.

At the launch event, Deloitte’s expert team highly commended the ESG Report. According to the experts, the report was prepared in a rigorous and standardized manner, featuring comprehensive content and reliable data while fully adhering to mainstream ESG disclosure standards. It provides a multidimensional presentation of Sicomines’ achievements in environmental protection, social responsibility, and corporate governance. The experts further noted that, by aligning ESG practices with the realities of overseas operations, Sicomines has developed an ESG model well suited to China-Africa cooperation. This approach effectively addresses key sustainability challenges faced by overseas mining enterprises and offers a valuable reference and best-practice example for other Chinese companies operating abroad.

Looking ahead, Sicomines will continue to enhance its ESG management framework, remain committed to green development, deepen its engagement in local social responsibility initiatives, and further improve its modern governance practices. The company will continue to strengthen practical China-Africa cooperation and contribute to the economic and social development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo through high-quality and sustainable growth.
